Nutrition Department

Nutrition Department is one of University Hostels Departments. It supervises nutrition provided to students at the restaurants of University Hostels, which are eight restaurants; the restaurants of Seberbay Hostel for Males, Seberbay Hostel for Females, Segar Hostel for Females, Hekmah Hostel for Females, Al-Mathaf Hostel for Females, Al-Montazah and the  external restaurant for students who are not residents at University Hostels and who are not from Tanta. 
The Nutrition Department plans meals; breakfast, lunch and dinner, considering the nutrient value of every single meal and of meals served a day as a whole. The purpose is to provide the body with all daily needs of food element, according to age and activities practiced by the student.    
During the previous academic year, some outlets were inaugurated to distribute half-cooked meals to students who cannot get the hot meal at the  external restaurant because the Hostel is are away from their faculties. These meals consist of ‘fried chicken or meat, Fried potatoes, Processed Triangular cheese, jam and white bread’. The outlets are at Faculty of Specific Education, Faculty of Physical Education, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Arts. 
The average number of meals served to University Hostel Students, throughout the academic year, is about one million three hundred thousand meals, with a budget of almost nine million pounds, in the academic year 2007-2008. 
Specialists, technicians, cooks, assisting staff work in the Nutrition Department and its affiliated restaurants. They are about 138 persons divided as follows:

  • 60 Nutrition Specialists
  • 12 Agricultural Engineers
  • 47 Nutrition Experts
  • 14 Cooks
  • 50 Assisting Staff
  • Seasonal employment including: 40 employers, 30 cooks, 60 assistant cook and assisting staff.
